BRONZE MEDAL FOR BOYS @ LAAA XC CHAMPIONSHIPS

Joe (98) standing his ground with number 204
We started going into this event with a record entry of 24 athletes (in 2012 we had 20) and good medalling pedigree with the under 15 Girls getting a Silver Medal for 2nd team in 2013 so no pressure!  Unfortunately I couldn't be there but my partner in crime I main my partner in coaching John Mullen stepped into the breach and by all counts did a stirling job.

The key performance of the day came from the under 11 boys who ran a 1.2k distance.  After pulling off a silver team medal in the Road Relay in October (Joe Jackson, Patrick Saez & Fergus Kane), 2 of the boys did it again with Patrick Saez not in action this time round with Cameron Green taking the 3rd place in the trio.  Cameron was first Harrier home and first club race finished overall in a super 6th place in 3:15 (only 12 seconds adrift from the winner).  Then finishing in 13th in a time of 3:20 (Pb by 41 seconds from last year) was Fergus Kane;  Joe Jackson 15th, 3:20;  Dillion McAuslin 16th, 3:22; Joseph Fegan 26th, 3:39; Aiden Howell 28th, 3:39 and Rio Jordan 30th, 3:41.

Going by the under 11 Girls times they were working hard and making it hard for the other Lanarkshire clubs to beat them. Best performance for the girls goes to Holly McAneny who was first Harrier home, 14th overall from a field of 46 and her time was 3:30 (Pb by 49 seconds from 2013). Next up was Libby Currie finishing 19th in 3:36; Cara McAneny 23rd, 3:47; Sophie Williamson 26th, 3:47 and Holly Williamson 41st in 4:16. The trio of Holly McAneny, Libby Currie and Cara McAneny were 6th team out of 8.

Haleigh Muir who only joined the club this year was our solo under 13 girl.  She ran the longer course of 2.5k and finished in 13:17.  As Haleigh continues to train and do the races she is putting times down to beat next year, it just takes hard work. Keep going Haleigh.  Our u13 boys duo of Ross Cameron and Marc McQuade were pounding the 2.5k course with Ross Cameron finishing in a top ten position of 8th in 9:25 and Marc McQuade in 18th place with a time of 10:27.

Last but not least our under 15s were out to end Calderglen's participation at this event.  Best performance of the day goes to Kate Kane who had a top five finish in 5th place with a time of 14:22 and Louise Brown had Pb of 14 seconds from last year finishing in 17:08.  Jack MacBain was back for this event after running as a under 13 last year.  So this year he was running 3.7k for the first time finishing in 18th place in a time of 14:02.

Really a great set of results that I am proud of all that ran.  You have all increased your training time since the summer, working on your drill techniques and core strength with John supported by Robert Hawkins.  Hard works pays off!  Without a doubt I believe if we had more of our under 15 Girls out we would have won a team medal.  So this is what running is all about pushing yourself to the limits at training, doing this at races and constantly improving your times by running the best you can shaving off seconds here and there.  So once more well done everyone.

I won't be at Drumpellier Park to watch the Harriers in action, so my message is, have your usual meals, make sure you warm up as usual, focus on the best run you've ever had, think of someone you'd like to dedicate the race to, and when the moment comes let go with all that hard training you've done this year. You're fit, fast and strong so get out there and,  smash it. Good luck everyone, see you next Wednesday to hear your tales of glory.
