NATIONAL YOUNG ATHLETES ROAD RACE CHAMPIONSHIPS

The second race selected to help focus and develop our athletes is National Young Athletes Road Race Championships.  This is a championship event organised by our sporting body Scottish Athletics.

The race criteria (apart from set age groups) is all athletes need to be registered with Scottish Athletics (see link for more info: http://www.scottishathletics.org.uk/membership/) and have a club running vest (see Richard).

The event is on Saturday 18th March at Battery Park, Eldon Street, Greenock, PA16 7QG.  This is a pre-entry race and I will need names by Wednesday 1st March.  Race fees covered by club.

My hope is all the regular Parkrun attendees and who attend the Saturday session will seriously consider this event.  If you can do a 5k parkrun and train twice a week you can do this.

I hope that we can fill the field with Calderglen teams in all the age groups as we have over 20 young athletes in the club who could do this race.  Our strongest age groups are under 13 Girls & Boys and Under 15 Girls. As well as individual prizes there is a team prize for each team of 3 young athletes in each age group.

Both U13 races cover 2500 metres (2.5k)
U13 Girls declarations close at 11am and race starts at 11.30am
U13 Boys declarations close at 11:15am and race starts at 11.45am

Both U15 races cover 4200 metres (4.2k)
U15 Girls declarations close at 11:30am and race starts at 12pm
U15 Boys declarations close at 11:55am and race starts at 12:25pm

Both U17 races cover 4900 metres (4.9k)
U17 Women declarations close at 12:15pm and race starts at 12:50pm
U17 Men declarations close at 12:40pm and race starts at 1:15pm

We will have post training meeting about this to discuss.

PARKRUN - SATURDAY 31ST DECEMBER

Despite the rest & low key festive training I hoped for a good turnout for last Saturday's parkrun at Strathclyde Park. We had an encouraging 5 junior Harriers in the last parkrun of 2016.  There was a head wind on the way back which seem to effect everyones performance.  First to cross the line from Calderglen Harriers was Chris in a time of 21:40,  closely followed by Fergus in 22:04, Patrick in 24:13 and just behind was Freya Kane in 24:18. A short while later Renee Conneff completed the line up in 26:01.

Well done everyone and keep it going. 2017 is the year for Pbs and all round improvement.
